Frequently Asked Questions
Real answers to the questions we actually get from SENCOs, school leaders, and external teams.
About Snapshot
Snapshot is a SEND profiling tool for schools. It lets you build a structured, visual profile of a learner across eight key domains — Communication, Cognition, SEMH, Sensory, Health, Life Skills, Community, and Regulation. Each domain is scored A–E using professional judgement, not a formal test.
The output is a profile wheel, an A–E breakdown, and a written narrative summary — all exportable as a PDF for reviews, transitions, or multi-agency meetings.
No. Snapshot is a profiling tool, not a diagnostic instrument. It doesn't produce clinical scores or diagnoses. It structures your professional understanding of a learner's strengths and needs across eight domains — giving your team a shared language and a clear starting point for provision planning.
Snapshot was built by Jack Flanagan, a SEND educator and specialist, after years of watching schools struggle with fragmented, inconsistent information about their SEND learners. The tool addresses a real problem: pupil needs are often held across multiple staff and systems, with no single coherent picture available to the whole team.
Access & Pricing
Snapshot is currently in early development. You can join the waitlist to get notified when access opens — waitlist members will receive priority access ahead of any public launch. In the meantime, you can try the interactive demo at any time without signing up.
Yes — the demo is freely available right now. It lets you build a full sample profile, see the wheel, and explore the A–E scoring system without creating an account. It's the best way to understand what Snapshot does before you commit to anything.
Snapshot is currently in beta and completely free during early access. We want schools to try it, use it properly, and tell us what works before we finalise pricing.
When we do introduce pricing, it will be fair for the sector — we're working directly with early-access schools to make sure of that. If you have a specific budget or setting size in mind, get in touch and we'll have an honest conversation. We're not interested in pricing schools out of something that should be standard practice.
Yes. MAT-level and LA-level access is planned — with centralised oversight, consistent profiling across settings, and shared transition records. If you represent a trust or authority interested in piloting, please reach out directly.
Using Snapshot
Under 10 minutes for someone who knows the learner well. The tool is designed to capture professional knowledge that already exists — you're structuring what you know, not generating new assessment data from scratch. First-time users typically take a little longer as they familiarise themselves with the domain framework.
No formal training is required. The tool is intentionally straightforward — the scoring descriptors are written in plain language, and the interface is built so that a class teacher or TA can complete a profile without SENCO input. That said, we do recommend a short team briefing the first time a school rolls it out, just to align on how you'll use the profiles.
Yes — and this is actually one of the most useful things about it. Snapshot is valuable precisely at the stage before an EHCP, where a pupil is on SEN support and you need to clearly document and communicate their needs. It works for any learner where staff benefit from a shared, structured understanding of need.
Snapshot is designed for learners aged 4–19 across all educational settings — primary, secondary, specialist provision, and post-16. The domain framework is broad enough to apply across developmental stages, though scoring descriptors are grounded in school-aged expectations.
Yes. Profiles export as a professional PDF including the wheel, A–E domain scores, and a written narrative summary. These are designed to be usable in annual reviews, EHCP meetings, multi-agency discussions, and school-to-school transitions without needing to be re-explained.
Data & Privacy
Yes. All data is stored securely in the UK, encrypted in transit and at rest, and processed in accordance with UK GDPR. A full Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is available for schools that require it. See the Privacy Policy and DPA for details.
Snapshot stores only the information you enter — which can be as minimal as a first name and year group. We don't require pupil surnames, dates of birth, or UPNs. Schools retain full ownership of their data and can request deletion at any time. Snapshot acts as a data processor; your school is the data controller.
Snapshot works on all modern browsers — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge — on desktop and tablet. It's optimised for desktop use in school settings, though it functions on mobile for reference purposes. No app download or software installation is required.
