A Clear Picture for Every Learner

Snapshot is a profiling tool designed to build a clear, rounded picture of any young person or adult with SEND — across every setting, from EYFS to adult support.

I'm Jack, from Manchester. I started my teacher training at 18, and for the last ten years SEND has been at the centre of everything I've done — beginning in mainstream schools before moving into specialist provision.

The same problem kept appearing. Brilliant support work getting lost in translation between staff, settings, and agencies.

A new TA would start with no real picture of the learner. An annual review would spend the first hour just getting everyone on the same page. Insights from a therapist or health visitor wouldn't make it into the school's understanding of a child. A pupil could move settings and effectively start from scratch — because there was no shared picture, no common language. The learner was caught in the middle.

Snapshot came from a simple question: what if everyone could start from the same place?

I built Snapshot to give every learner one consistent profile that travels with them — one that captures not just their needs, but their strengths, what works for them, and what helps them thrive. The eight domains are deliberately mapped to the SEND Code of Practice, but written in language that makes sense to everyone around the table.

A way to make sure every adult working with a learner can see the whole person, right from day one.

When I built the first version for my own setting, I realised — this is what I'd been missing the whole time. And if I'd been missing it, so had everyone else.

But it's not just about reducing workload for staff. When every adult starts from the same complete picture, we stop defining learners by their deficits alone. Snapshot captures the whole child — where they need support, absolutely, but also where they shine. That quiet pride when they master a new concept, that creative approach they've discovered, that moment of connection that shows you who they really are. These aren't just 'nice to haves' — they're the insights that help staff build genuine relationships and design support that actually works. Because a child who feels seen is a child who can engage.

Where Snapshot Helps Most

Four moments where a consistent picture saves time, reduces risk, and helps adults line up around the same plan.

New TA or New Staff Member

Instead of ten verbal handovers, Snapshot gives a clear starting point: strengths, needs, and what works — before they walk into the room.

Day 1 readiness

Transitions Between Settings

When a learner moves, the profile travels too — so the receiving team doesn't start from zero, and key needs don't get lost.

Smoother handovers

Annual Review / EHCP Conversations

Bring a shared, structured picture into the meeting. Less re-explaining. More time spent agreeing the support that will actually help.

Multi-Agency Working

A common language across education, health, and care. Less mismatch between reports — more alignment around the learner's day-to-day reality.
